ABOUT US

Narranmore
With the passion of six generations of farmers behind them, the O’Leary family, Ian, Christine, Duncan and Toby run their Poll Dorset and Angus studs along with commercial sheep and cattle operations from three Elong Elong, New South Wales, based properties.

Poll Dorsets

They founded the Poll Dorset stud in 1990 with the objective to breed true Dorset type quality rams that were quick maturing and well muscled whilst maintaining structural soundness.

Holding two annual sales they sell upwards of 250 rams in the year. Most of the purchasers are repeat buyers who come back for the growth rate, length and square frames that can be found
within every offering. The rams are suitable for both first-cross and Merino ewes.

Using almost pure Tattykeel bloodlines and ensuring purchases of the most elite stud rams when possible, the O’Learys look for both figures and proven breeding. This allows them to offer their
clients consistency so they can be assured the same in their Prime Lamb businesses.

Narranmore sale rams are scanned by Stockscan as early as possible, not just prior to the sales. This makes the figures more relevant. All ewes are run under commercial conditions and are naturally mated. There is no Artificial Insemination or embryo programs used.

The stud is accredited brucellosis free and rams are vet inspected every year.

Clients are regularly topping local markets, in particular the sucker market and have also been highly successful in carcase competitions.
 Angus
Narranmore Angus stud was founded from a herd of specially selected joined cows and cows with calves at foot purchased from the Tucklan Valley Angus dispersal in 2010.

Predominantly using Millah Murrah genetics the O’Learys were excited to have recently purchased two Canadian bred sires.

Temperament is extremely important and the bulls are regularly handled. With the commercial breeder in mind structural soundness, early maturity and muscling are essential. The herd is
operated using commercial conditions.

The stud participates in Breed plan as it is a great selection tool but consider visual assessment (phenotype) also paramount in bull selection.

An Artificial Insemination programme is used each year and follows that with natural joining for our second autumn drop bulls.

An annual sale is held on the last Friday of August where approximately 45 bulls are offered.
